On 21 April award-winning journalist and travel writer, Jane Bussmann will be sharing her nuggets of writerly wisdom to aspiring, semi-established and up-and-coming journalists. From the art of pitching as a freelancer to travel writing and script writing, and with Q&A and including individual critiques of your pitches… this event is sure to offer you reams of advice and tips on making it as a successful writer.

Bio:


Jane Bussmann began her writing career at the age of 19 for the Guardian with her column 'On the Razz', then became a comedy writer for the BBC working and went on to write for South Park. Some of her writing credits include the Emmy-winning Smack the Pony, The Fast Show, Armando Iannucci’s Friday Night Armistice and Chris Morris’ legendary satire show Brass Eye. (Bussmann was ‘Named and Shamed’ in the News of the World newspaper as one of the writers behind Brass Eye Special, the most complained-about program in British television history). She worked on over fifty shows and developed comedy for NBC, HBO, the BBC, ITV, Granada and Channel4 among others.

She is also a newspaper columnist and has written celebrity features for The Huffington Post, the Sunday Times, Harpers, the Independent, GQ, Esquire, Glamour and inStyle. 

In 2006, her live comedy show Bussmann’s Holiday, about her adventures following peacemaker John Prendergast to a Ugandan war zone, was a four-star hit at the Edinburgh Festival with a subsequent sold-out London run at the Soho Theatre, going on to play in New York, Sydney, Latitude and Frontline receiving rave reviews. Bussmann’s Holiday was nominated for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Awards and won Best Comedy at Perrier rivals the Tap Water Awards.

Jane is also a two-time recipient of the Travel Writer of the Year British Press Awards and won the Book of the Year Muzik Awards for 'Once in a Lifetime'. Her second book, 'Worst Date' was the pick of the week in The Sunday Times and was in the Best 2010 Reads list in the Evening Standard.
